Ashton Kutcher recalls how he freaked out believing he would be accused of his friends murder after leaving fingerprints on her door.

On Wednesday, the Ranch actor testified at the trial of Michael Gargiulo, who is accused of murdering Ashtons friend, Ashley Ellerin, on 21 February 2001.

Ashton, 41, had dinner plans with Ellerin, 22, but she never made it after being stabbed 47 times inside her home while getting ready for the evening out.

According to People, the court heard how Ashton spoke to Ellerin on the phone at 8:24pm but she was killed shortly after.

With time passing, Ashton called Ellerin again at 10:15pm to check that they still had plans to meet up.

When she didnt answer, he swung by her house at 10:45pm to knock on her door, but assumed hed be stood up when she didnt respond despite the lights being on.

It was during this time that Ashton left his fingerprints on the doorknob, completely unaware that a crime had taken place.

Speaking on the stand, Ashton said: My fingerprints are on this door and I was freaking out. I told [an officer], “Let me tell you what happened”.

The Hollywood actor learned about Ellerins death the following day and was interviewed by police.

When he knocked at Ellerins house, he peered through the window and saw what he assumed were red wine stains on the floor.

But Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Dan Akemon said: We believe now the evidence will show that was actually blood, and Ashley had already been murdered.

Gargiulo, 43, was an air conditioning repairman and former bouncer at the Rainbow Bar & Grill when he met Ellerin outside her home in 2000.

He had asked if Ellerin, who was a former stripper and student at LAs Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, needed help fixing a flat tire.

Ellerins friends claimed he would then show up at her house uninvited on several occasions.
