PARIS — U.S. tech giant Amazon will start reopening its French warehouses progressively from May 19, the company said Friday evening.

“We are currently finalizing a process with French unions and works councils. We are hopeful that we will be able to reopen our French fulfillment centers in the coming days,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.

Amazons French warehouses have been closed since mid-April. The company had temporarily shut its fulfillment centers in response to court rulings restricting deliveries to essential products only until a risk assessment is carried out. After losing an appeal against unions in late April, the e-commerce giant said last week it would take the case to the French supreme court.

“This follows five weeks of discussions in which we have repeatedly provided clarification and information about the extensive safety measures already implemented at our fulfillment centers to keep our employees safe,” Amazon said.
