Agent: When is Rockstar Games next big release coming after GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption?

DS

The stealth action game Agent was announced by Rockstar Games in July 2007.

Rockstar, as we're sure many gamers know, are the developers behind incredibly video games such as Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Bully and many more noteworthy titles.

The publisher revealed it was working on an exclusive PlayStation 3 game.

However, it took until 2009 before any more details were announced during a Sony press conference.

Unfortunately, though, we're STILL waiting on Rockstar's Agent to come to consoles.

Set during the Cold War, the international spy thriller would supposedly take players "around the globe”.

Rockstar explain on their website: “Agent takes players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s”

At the time, Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, said: “We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game.

“Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique.

“We cannot wait for people to experience this game.”

While Rockstar and software company Take-Two insist the game remains in the works, not much has been said about the game since then.

The silence led fans to believe the title had been abandoned, but in May 2011 Take-Two confirmed the game was still in development.

Agent: Alleged leaked Concept Art for the game

On the Agent section on the Rockstar Games website, it says that Agent's release date is TBA.

While many fans once again believed the project had been abandoned, Take Two Interactive renewed the trademark for the game on December 5, 2016.

On the landing page it also says “Agent, coming soon” although you obviously might want to take that with a pinch of salt.

We would imagine that if Rockstar were to continue developing Agent it would be more likely to arrive on the next console generation.

At the time of writing, the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett release date is widely believed to be around 2020 or 2021.

Understandably though, there are a large portion of people who think it has been scrapped altogether.

In August 2017, leaked concept art from the Agent game was allegedly leaked online.

The images showed a snowy landscape with roads and mountains.

On a GTA forum a user posed sketches from what he claimed came from a Rockstar artist.

The black and white sketches show a man in a suit.
