SINGAPORE – To get her son to sleep, Mrs Sher-li Torrey has tried aromatherapy, bedtime stories and warm soy drinks. She also uses blackout curtains in his room to block out light.

These relaxation aids have not helped seven-year-old Ian keep to his appointed bedtime of 9pm. Like many children, he resists going to bed, sometimes dragging things out till 10.30pm.
