Nintendo Direct January: New Nintendo Switch games reveal coming THIS MONTH? (Pic: NINTENDO)

Nintendo fans, look sharp: we could be seeing a new Nintendo Direct in the coming weeks.

Traditionally, Nintendo has hosted post-holidays presentations in the first month of the new year – and we don't see 2019 as being any different.

Information on Nintendo's financial year is pretty sparse right now – we know that a few games (Fire Emblem, Pokemon RPG) are due in 2019, but specific windows or even full names are currently not known.

The last Direct we saw was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stream that debuted on November 1, 2018.

When will we see a January 2019 Nintendo Direct?

To predict when we can see a Nintendo Direct in 2019, we're best looking back at previous years and their early Directs.

First up, we saw a Spring-Summer 2018 Nintendo Switch games Direct take place on January 11, 2018, followed by a 'full' Direct on March 8.

Then, back in 2017, we a Nintendo Switch hardware and software presentation take place on January 12, followed by a more specific indie showcase on February 28.

Will we see Nintendo drop a Direct in January for the third year running?

We think so.

So could Friday 11th January be the date it'll drop? It lines up with other years.

January 2019 Nintendo Direct – What to expect

We know that Game Freak and Nintendo are looking at pushing out a Pokemon RPG in 2019 – we'd hope an early Direct would at least name (and possibly date) this title. Typically we see Q3 Pokemon games named and the first details shown earlier in the same year they're released.

We expect Yoshi's Crafted World to see a proper release date, too – hopefully, we'll see more than just Q2 materialise within a few weeks.

Animal Crossing Switch is about due for a proper reveal, after a cruel tease of Isabelle as a fighter in Smash late last year.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was last seen at E3, but we're expecting to hear more very soon.

Aside from that, Nintendo always lays down the surprises at these events so you can expect updates on the big games, then a little more news on new titles too. We'll update you as soon as we hear anything else.
