Selena Gomez is no longer the top dog on Instagram.
Unbelievably, Selena has been toppled from the top spot despite having a huge following of 144 million people checking out her posts and stories – footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has come in and swiped the title by 33,863 follows.
Both accounts officially read that they have 144 million, but according to Pedestrian, a breakdown using app Gramblast reveals Selena has 144,330,455 while Cristiano pips her to the post with 144,364,318, meaning the footballer is just ahead.
Not bad for Sel Go though, given that shes currently taking a break from social media and thus isnt posting anything to keep her followers entertained.
She wrote: Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybodys feelings. Obvi.
Cristianos account is all about his sport and his family, with a mixture of shots of him mid-game and his four kids.
His social media popularity comes amid sexual assault allegations levelled at the footballer.
Ronaldo has denied claims made against him and has branded the allegations an attempt to destroy his reputation.
In the statement the lawyer representing Ronaldo stated: What occurred in 2009 in Las Vegas was consensual in nature.
Mr Ronaldo was advised to privately resolve the allegation against him in order to avoid the inevitable attempts that are now being made to destroy a reputation that has been built upon hard work, athleticism and honour.
Elsewhere in the Instagram top rankings, Ariana Grande has 132 million followers, Kim Kardashian West with 120 million and Beyonce on 119 million.
Barcelonas Lionel Messi, considered by many to be the only player to rival Ronaldo in world football, has 100 million followers.
