Ubisoft is adding two types of ‘battle crates’ to their open world hit, but they insist they won’t affect gameplay.
Since Battlefront II was one of the last major releases of last year there hasn’t been any other big-name games to see whether attitudes may have changed, but Ubisoft certainly seem keen because they’re adding them to Ghost Recon: Wildlands.
To be fair, their announcement does go out of its way to make it clear that the contents of ‘battle crates’ do not affect gameplay and that except for Icon skins you can buy all of them separately through pack offers in the in-game store.
Battle crates come in two varieties: Spec Ops Crates for the campaign and co-op mode, and Ghost War Crates for the competitive Ghost War mode. Each contains three items, with a guarantee that none are duplicates.
Spec Ops Crates contain epic weapons, exotic weapons, vehicles, and other cosmetic items. Ghost War Crates contain exotic weapons (re-skinned versions of existing weapons with exactly the same stats), customisation items, and a new line of character skins called Icons.
Apart from the free ones you get when you log in to your Ubisoft account battle crates can be purchased from the in-game store for 400 credits.
Given how much credits cost to buy with real money that works out at about £2 each. Although you can earn credits just by playing the game.
