Sega are definitely pulling out all the stops for their retro mini-console, with a host of classic first and third party Mega Drive classics.

There have been so many mini-console versions of the Mega Drive over the years, you could be forgiven for all but ignoring the news of the Mega Drive Mini.

But those previous consoles were farmed out to other companies to produce, whereas the Mega Drive Mini is being handled by Sega themselves – and this time theyre doing things properly.

As the Classic Mini NES and SNES showed – and the PlayStation Classic didnt – whats important to get right is not just the quality of the emulation but the selection of games.

Since retro masters M2 are handling the ports we have zero concerns about the emulation and so far the line-up of games is looking equally impressive.

Sega has announced 10 new titles today, including Disney platformers Castle Of Illusion and World Of Illusion, 2D shooters Thunder Force III, Super Fantasy Zone, and Contra: Hard Corps, action platformer Shinobi III, role-playing game Landstalker, scrolling beat em-up Streets Of Rage II, and iconic platformers Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Earthworm Jim.

Including third party games like Earthworm Jim and Contra is key to getting the perfect spread of games and things are looking pretty good considering theres still another 20 games to announce after this.

You can see the full list of currently confirmed games below, with the Mega Drive Mini due out on 19 September for a very reasonable-sounding £69.99 – especially considering you get two controllers with it as well.
