Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered LEAK: MW2 won't have multiplayer, says source

A release for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was leaked late last week (more details on that below the gallery) but since it's not been entirely clear whether the Italian Amazon listing had any merit.

After all, it could be an overly pre-emptive placeholder and although you can be sure that Activision won't formally announce anything until they are quite ready, there's been no concrete evidence to suggest that the game is indeed coming this year.

However, Charlie Intel, experts in all things Call of Duty, have done some digging and run a story in the last hour suggesting that they have bee sent materials from a source with links to Raven Software.

The details revealed by Charlie Intel suggest that, firstly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is indeed being worked on.

But the more interesting details they've gleaned concerns the fact that the game would launch without a multiplayer mode, indicating that this remaster would be a campaign only release.

In addition, it appears that Raven Software, who worked on the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remaster, won't be working on this second release.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered LEAK

Activision could be set to release a brand new Call of Duty Remaster, this time overhauling Modern Warfare 2. Here's a look at the leak and some screenshots of the game to jog your memory

Here's what Charlie Intel had to say about the information they learnt from their source:

This information would actually line up with the Amazon Italy listing. The listing stated that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered would cost around $25, which is a lot lower than what Activision charged for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered in 2017, $40. That game featured both single player and MP. Having the price cut almost in half for the MW2 Remastered would support that the game is not the full game remastered.

In addition, the materials sent to CI stated that Raven Software is actually not developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered at all. Although Raven Software did develop the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered in 2016, it does not appear they are working on this title in any way according to the material CI reviewed.

There are some rumors that Beenox, the team which assisted Raven Software in developing the campaign portion of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered (and previously developed Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2015), could be working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, as the studio has been on a hiring spree for Call of Duty related projects over the last several months. Numerous job listings on Beenox’s site states that the studio is “currently dedicated to the development of the Call of Duty franchise."

For anyone looking to get a rough idea of what a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remaster could look like, they need only look at the comparison pictures released by Raven when developing the first game remaster (see gallery below).

We would imagine that a similar standard of quality is what we'll get with a Modern Warfare 2 Remaster as there's only so much that can be done with a HD upscale, regardless how much the team works to overhaul the game from the ground up.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered Screenshots

Take a look at Activision's Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remaster coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC later this year.

with separate entries manifesting for Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.

The release date attached to both is April 30 – do bear in mind however that April 30 is a placeholder date for Amazon and that this could be subject to change.

Listings for both versions of the game suggest prices of €19.99 (roughly $25 USD / £17 / $31 AUD), perhaps hinting that this will be available to everyone from the start at a budget price… rather than forcing users to buy this year's CoD project to enjoy the remaster.

There is no art attached to the images, and no box art to speak of either.

Stay tuned for more details.
